DJID certification for smartwatch

In a more modern era like today, the function of watch has shifted along with technological advancement. Not only as a time indicator, now watches are also equipped with various sophisticated features like smartphones. Watch with advanced technology features is called as smartwatch.

In this article we will discuss all about smartwatch device and its DJID certification in Indonesia.

What is smartwatch?

Smartwatch is a watch that offers more functions than just indicating the time. This device offers a new experience for users how to interacting in today’s digital world.

Smartwatch is one type of popular wearable device nowadays. This device is very dependent on smartphones. Therefore, increasing number of smartphone users will affects the sales level of wearable devices like smartwatch.

Components of smartwatch

Smartwatch works by combining several main electronic components.

  • Processor: is the brain that runs the operating system and applications in the smartwatch.
  • Memory: used to store application data and user data.
  • Sensor: this component allows the smartwatch to track various daily activities.
  • Touchscreen: uses AMOLED or LCD technology that is energy efficient and responsive to touch.
  • Battery: provides power to all existing components. Smartwatch battery charging can also be done using wireless charging technology.

Smartwatch operation system and its connectivity

Smartwatch uses a special operating system that has been developed specifically for wearable device. This operating system allows smartwatch to run applications, synchronize data, and provide an interactive interface to the users.

In order to connect to other modern devices, smartwatches use several types of wireless connectivity.

  • Bluetooth: connects smartwatches to smartphones for notifications and data synchronization.
  • NFC: to make digital payments.

Currently, several smartwatches also support cellular network connectivity with eSIM, so the device can be used without having to be connected to a smartphone.

Benefits of smartwatch

Smartwatch is more than just watch, it is combined with sophisticated technological features that makes this device popular today. Some of these sophisticated features ranging from tracking physical activity, monitoring health, provide notifications, and functioning as a personal digital assistant.

One of the main features offered by smartwatch is its ability to monitor user activity and health. This feature works through a combination of sensors and algorithms.

Smartwatches generally have powerful processors installed with various sensors such as accelerometers, gyroscopes, and optics. The support of this sensor technology allows the device to contribute to improving user health.

  • Heart rate monitoring: using optical sensors to detect changes in blood flow in the wrist.
  • Activity tracking: accelerometer and gyroscope sensors detect movements such as footsteps, exercise duration, and sleep duration.
  • Location tracking: with GPS embedded, smartwatches are able to record the user’s running or cycling routes.

All data collected by the sensors is processed by the processor using complex algorithms. The resulting data can be displayed in the form of graphs or numbers on the smartwatch and supporting applications on the user’s smartphone.

DJID certification for smartwatch

As previously mentioned, smartwatch devices work with Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity support. Even more sophisticated versions of smartwatches are supported by NFC and wireless charging features.

The use of several radio frequency features requires each smartwatch device to meet the technical standards applicable in Indonesia. Fulfillment of these technical standards is carried out through the DJID certification process. Therefore, it is important for each smartwatch device to be certified before being traded in Indonesia.

RF testing

Smartwatch devices that supported by the Bluetooth feature can operate on frequency band 2.4 GHz. The technical regulation of KEPMEN KOMINFO No. 260 year 2024 has regulated the frequency range and maximum power for Bluetooth in Indonesia.

Some smartwatches also support contactless capabilities and short-range data transfer. These features are also known as the NFC feature and generally operates on frequecny band 13.56 MHz. Referring to the same technical regulations as Bluetooth, it explains the frequency range and maximum power for NFC in Indonesia.

EMC testing

In the DJID certification process, smartwatch devices also need to do EMC testing. The EMC testing parameters used are the CISPR32 standard. Currently, DJID only requires EMC test result for radiated emission and conducted emission.
