The process of delivering information to the public has evolved over decades. In the past, mostly printing media was used for delivering information to the public. But currently, the process of delivering information to the public is mostly done digitally. Digital signage is a form of innovation in delivering information to the public by using modern technology.
In this article we will discuss all about digital signage and its DJID certification requirements in Indonesia.
Definition of digital signage
If we look at the forming words of digital signage, it is actually means information board technology. Therefore, digital signage can be defined as an information board that uses digital technology to display a content in the form of images or videos.
In the past, information boards were generally still made in printing format such as banners. Currently, the use of information boards has been widely transformed into digital format using digital screen media.
Types of digital signage
There are 2 types of digital screens commonly used for digital signage technology.
LCD screen
Digital signage that uses an LCD screen is generally used for indoors purposes with a small size. This type of screen has limitation on dealing with sunlight.
LED screen
Digital signage that uses an LED screen is generally used for outdoors purposes with a relatively larger size. The LED screen type has better ability to deal with sunlight.
Digital signage functions

If we look at its function, digital signage still has the same function as printing signage. But in general, digital signage has more the functionality as follows:
Efficient promotional tools
Currently, many shopping centers are already using digital signage as their promotional medium. Promotional activities will also be more efficient because digital signage can display different content at any targeted time.
Tools for public communication and information
Several office centers and government agencies are also using digital signage as a medium for delivering information publicly. The activity of delivering information with digital signage is considered more effective because we can arrange the information sequences that will be delivered automatically to public.
How digital signage works?
The way a digital signage works can be done traditionally and modernly.
Traditional system
If we look at from the traditional operation system of digital signage, the way to display a content on digital signage is still carried out by saving the content list to a USB. After the USB is filled with contents, the USB can be plugged into the digital signage. Usually, the traditional operation is still used when managing single digital signage only.
Modern system
If we look at from the modern operation system of digital signage, the way to display a content has used a technology of Content Management System (CMS). CMS is an software or application used to manage content to be displayed. Generally, the modern way is used to manage more than one digital signage.
Trends of modern digital signage
Digital signage with modern operation system mostly can be controlled remotely using a Wifi network. In general, a digital signage system is built by three components: digital screen, media player, and CMS.
Managing digital signage in large quantities will be greatly assisted if we use a modern digital signage system called Content Management System (CMS). By using CMS we can utilize a Wifi network or internet cloud to manage more than one digital signage.
Digital signage system that utilizes a Wifi network will use a router for the process of content data distribution. The router will work as a regulator of data delivery path from the server to all digital signage players. If the content data has been received by the digital signage player, then the digital signage will display the assigned content.
DJID certification for digital signage
As we have dicussed previously, most of digital signage devices currently have used Radio Frequency (RF) technology as their communication tools. RF technology that commonly used in digital signage devices are Bluetooth and Wifi.
In Indonesia, every device equipped with Bluetooth and Wifi features is required to meet the requirement of DJID certification. This compliance obligation aims to ensure that digital signage devices will not cause interference when used together with other electronic and digital devices.
RF testing
Generally, digital signage needs to do RF testing for Bluetooth and Wifi features. The technical regulation for Bluetooth testing is KEPMEN KOMINFO No 260 year 2024. Meanwhile, Wifi testing is carried out based on the technical regulation of KEPMEN KOMDIGI No.12 year 2025.
Below is the testing parameters for Bluetooth:
| Frequency band | Output power | Spurious emission | Testing method |
| 2400 – 2483.5 MHz | < 20 dBm EIRP | EN 300 328 | EN 300 328 |
Below is the testing parameters for Wifi (indoor):
| Frequency band | Output power | Spurious emission | Testing method |
| 2400 – 2483.5 MHz | < 27 dBm EIRP | EN 300 328 | EN 300 328 |
| 5150 – 5250 MHz | < 23 dBm EIRP | EN 301 893 | EN 301 893 |
| 5250 – 5350 MHz | < 23 dBm EIRP | EN 301 893 | EN 301 893 |
| 5725 – 5825 MHz | < 23 dBm EIRP | EN 300 440 | EN 300 440 |
EMC testing
EMC testing requirements for digital signage devices are the same as other telecom devices. The testing process is carried out based on EMC standard of CISPR32. For digital signage, the EMC testing parameters are radiated emission and conducted emission.
Electrical safety testing
Since digital signage is generally supplied with AC power, it is necessary to meet electrical safety requirements. The testing process for electrical safety is carried out based on IEC standard of IEC 60950. For digital signage, the electrical safety parameters are leakage current and over voltage.
