Home lighting is one of the important aspects in creating a comfortable home. Therefore, it is important to determine the type of lamp that will be used in the home. For decades, the lamp has been transformed into a more modern equipment. Currently, there is a trend of smart lamp called as smart bulb. This type of lamp is considered more energy efficient, easy to use, and can be connected to other smart devices.
In this article we will discuss all about smart bulb and its DJID certification requirements in Indonesia.
What is smart bulb?
Smart bulb is a type of lamp that can be connected to a Wifi or Bluetooth network. By utilizing wireless connectivity, this type of lamp can be controlled using smart devices such as smartphones or smart speakers.
So, turning on and off the lamp, or adjusting the brightness of the light can be done wirelessly via an application or voice command. Some smart bulbs can also be programmed to change the color of the light according to user’s needs or mood conditions.
The smart bulb can also be connected to other smart home platforms such as Google Home or Apple HomeKit to integrate the lights with other smart devices in the home.
How smart bulb works?

Smart bulb works by connecting it to a Wifi or Bluetooth network at home. After being connected, users can control the lamp using an application on a smartphone or smart speaker connected to the network. In order to connect smart bulb to the network, there are several steps that usually must be taken:
- Activate the pairing mode of the smart bulb.
- Install the controller application on the smart smartphone.
- Follow the instructions on the application to connect the smart bulb to the network.
Once this device is connected to the network, users can control the lights using an application on their smartphone or smart speaker. Some smart bulbs also have a schedule or timer feature, so the lamps can turn on or off automatically at a specified time.
To control this device with your voice, you need to connect it to a smart speaker such as Google Home or Apple HomeKit. Once the smart bulb is connected to the smart speaker, you can control it with voice commands using the virtual assistant on the smart speaker.
Benefits of smart bulb

Here are some of the benefits of using smart bulbs compared to other conventional lamps.
Energy efficiency
The main benefit of using smart bulb is less energy consumption than conventional lamps. This type of lamp is considered more energy efficient because it consumes less electricity while producing the same amount of light. In addition, smart bulbs last longer than most other conventional lamps, so users do not need to replace it so often compared to regular bulbs.
Increased convenience
Smart bulb is very practical, so instead of having to manually set the lights every morning and night, users can simply program them with a few clicks on a smartphone application. This will save time and effort every day and ensure users are never left in the dark.
Remote control
Another benefit of using smart bulbs is the users can control the bulbs remotely. With a smart home assistant or smartphone application, users can turn the lights on or off, dim them, change their colors, or set schedules. This is very useful if users forget to turn off the lights before going to work or going to bed.
Increased security
Smart bulbs can also improve the security inside a home or even an office. This type of bulb can be programmed to turn on or off at random times, which can help deter potential intruders. In addition, some smart bulbs are also equipped with motion sensors that will automatically adjust the brightness of the lights when they detect movement in a room.
DJID certification for smart bulb
Smart bulb will requires Wifi or Bluetooth connectivity to communicate with a smartphone or smart speaker. Therefore, smart bulb is mandatory to meet applicable technical standards before being marketed in Indonesia. The process to comply with this technical standards is carried out through a product certification process called DJID certification.
By processing the DJID certification, it indicates that the product has been marketed legally in Indonesia. In addition, DJID certificate also ensures that the smart bulb works in the permitted frequency bands in Indonesia, so it will not cause any interference during its operation.
Before processing the DJID certification, it is necessary to perform RF and EMC test for smart bulb. The RF and EMC test reports will be required DJID certification process.
RF test for smart bulb
As already mentioned that smart bulb support Wifi connectivity. Usully smart bulb only use frequency band of 2.4 GHz for the Wifi connectivity. The testing of Wifi is conducted based on the technical regulation of KEPMEN KOMDIGI No. 12 year 2025. Below is the required testing parameters for Wifi feature.
| Frequency range | Classification of use | Output power | Channel bandwidth | Spurious emission |
| 2400 – 2483.5 MHZ | Access type 1 | < 27 dBm EIRP (500 mWatt) | < 40 MHz | ETSI EN 300 328 (min version 1.8.1) |
In addition to Wifi connectivity, smart bulb also support Bluetooth connectivity. The testing of Bluetooth is conducted based on the technical regulation of KEPMEN KOMINFO No. 260 year 2024. Below is the required testing parameters for Bluetooth feature.
| Frequency band | Output power | Spurious emission | Testing method |
| 2400 – 2483.5 MHz | < 20 dBm EIRP | ETSI EN 300 328 | ETSI EN 300 328 |
EMC test for smart bulb
EMC test for smart bulb is conducted based on the international EMC standard of CISPR 32. Because smart bulb is supplied by AC power, then the required EMC parameters to be tested are EMC radiated and conducted emissions.
The testing of EMC radiated emission for smart bulb is carried out in the frequency range of 30 – 1000 MHz and 1000 – 6000 MHz. Meanwhile, the testing of EMC conducted emission is carried out at main terminal power of smart bulb and in the frequency range of 150 kHz – 30 MHz.
