Classification of telecommunications equipment for Thailand type approval: Class A, Class B, and SDoC

Previously we have discussed Thailand type approval certification, and it is also important to know about the classification of telecommunications equipment for type approval in Thailand. NBTC Office has classified telecommunications equipment and/or devices into Class A, Class B, and SDoC categories.

Inspection and certification are required for all categories of telecommunications equipment. The activities including testing, registration, certification, and other compliance activities. Inspection and certification are carried out to demonstrate that a telecommunications equipment and its technical characteristics comply with the standards set by the NBTC Office.

In this article we will discuss all about telecommunications equipment classification for processing type approval certification in Thailand

Classification of telecommunications equipment for Thailand type approval

Basically, telecommunications equipment and/or telecommunications devices that requires inspection and certification is divided into two categories:

  • Class A equipment (ประเภท ก) is telecommunications equipment that must demonstrate compliance with standards or technical specifications by passing tests from a standard inspection and certification body, and then registering the telecommunications equipment with the NBTC Office.
  • Class B equipment (ประเภท ข) is telecommunications equipment that must demonstrate compliance with technical standards or technical specifications by passing tests from a standard inspection and certification body, and then certifying the telecommunications equipment with the NBTC Office.

If the telecommunications equipment does not fall into either Class A or Class B, then it is mandatory to do a compliance activity based on self-declaration principle called SDoC.

  • Supplier’s Declaration of Conformity (SDoC) is telecommunications equipment that has established standards or technical specifications by the NBTC Office, but does not require the equipment to conduct inspection and certification. Operators must provide written confirmation that the telecommunications equipment comply with the standards or specifications, using the Supplier’s Declaration of Conformity (SDoC) principle.
