DJID certification for bluetooth digital scales

Digital scales are increasingly popular tools in various sectors right now, from commerce to health care industry. Technological advancements have brought significant changes to the field of weight measurement, particularly with the addition of bluetooth features to digital scales. Bluetooth digital scales are more than just a tool for measuring weight. These devices can provide much more detailed information about body composition, such as fat content, muscle mass, water content, and even metabolic rate. Therefore, in this article, we will discuss all about bluetooth digital scales and their DJID certification requirements in Indonesia.

What is bluetooth digital scales?

Bluetooth digital scales allow users to measure their body weight or other objects with high precision. Furthermore, this type of scale is also equipped with advanced features to analyze body condition and provide detailed information on muscle mass composition with high accuracy.

Conventional digital scales generally lack of the advanced analysis features. Furthermore, Bluetooth-enabled digital scales can also be connected to smartphones for data transfer to dedicated applications. Data transmission from the digital scales to the smartphone is achieved using bluetooth technology.

How does bluetooth digital scales works?

DJID certification for bluetooth digital scales

Bluetooth digital scales generally work using the principles of Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) to measure body composition. Recorded measurement data is transmitted wirelessly via Bluetooth connection to dedicated applications for further analysis and verification. Here are the steps to connect a bluetooth digital scale to a smartphone:

  • Ensure the digital scale and bluetooth feature on the smartphone are turned on.
  • Open the dedicated application on the smartphone and look for the option to pair a new device.
  • Once the digital scale and smartphone are connected via bluetooth, the users can begin measuring their weight.
  • The measurement data recorded on the digital scale is then sent wirelessly via Bluetooth to the dedicated app installed on the smartphone.
  • The applications will automatically display the measurement results, including weight and other body composition parameters.

Benefits of bluetooth digital scales

Bluetooth digital scales are electronic devices that offer users convenience and flexibility in the weight measurement process. Here are some of the benefits of using a bluetooth digital scale.

  • High accuracy: Bluetooth digital scales have highly sensitive sensors, enabling measurements with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ease of use: With a digital display, measurement results on bluetooth digital scales can be read easily and quickly.
  • Ergonomic design: Bluetooth digital scales mostly have a compact design and easy to integrate with systems or work sites.
  • Additional features: Many bluetooth digital scales come with additional features such as storage memory, Bluetooth connectivity, and USB ports.
  • Versatility: Bluetooth digital scales can be used for a wide variety of items, from merchandise to laboratory samples.

DJID certification for bluetooth digital scales

As already explained before, bluetooth digital scales operate using a bluetooth connection. Because of this feature, digital scales with bluetooth feature need to meet applicable technical standards before being marketed in Indonesia. The process of fulfilling the technical standard requirements is carried out through the DJI certification process.

By processing DJID certification, it indicates that bluetooth digital scales have complied with applicable compliance standards and can be marketed legally in Indonesia. Ownership of DJI certification also guarantees that bluetooth digital scales will work on the permitted frequency band in Indonesia so that there is no radio frequency interference occurred.

Before processing the DJID certification, it is necessary to perform RF and EMC tests for bluetooth digital scales. The RF and EMC test reports will be required during application submission process.

RF test for bluetooth digital scales

Bluetooth feature is a type of wireless technology that commonly used in many of digital scales nowadays. The testing of bluetooth is conducted based on the technical regulation of KEPMEN KOMINFO No. 260 year 2024 and below are the required testing parameters.

EMC test for bluetooth digital scales

There are several types of power supply used in bluetooth digital scales, it could be primary batteries or rechargeable batteries. Therefore, EMC requirements will depend on the type of power supply used by the bluetooth digital scales. The EMC testing process will be based on the international EMC standard CISPR 32.

Bluetooth digital scales powered by primary or non-rechargeable batteries are only require to do EMC radiated emission test. The testing will be performed in the frequency ranges of 30 MHz – 1000 MHz and 1000 MHz – 6000 MHz.

Meanwhile, if the bluetooth digital scales is powered by rechargeable batteries, then EMC conducted emission test is also required. The testing is performed on the bluetooth digital scale’s main power terminals in the frequency range of 150 kHz – 30 MHz.
