Thailand NBTC require electrical safety test report for Bluetooth equipment

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has verbally informed the new requirement for electrical safety test report when processing NBTC certification for telecommunication equipment and radiocommunication devices with Bluetooth feature. Therefore, suppliers and operators will require to submit electrical safety test report when applying for Thailand type approval of Bluetooth equipment. In the scope of Thailand type approval, telecommunication equipment and radiocommunication devices with Bluetooth feature is subject to SDoC registration. This new requirement is estimated to be implemented on 1 February 2026.

In this article we will discuss all about this NBTC update for new requirement of electrical safety test report for Bluetooth equipment and its impact on type approval process in Thailand.

New requirement of electrical safety test report for Bluetooth equipment

The purpose of this article is to inform manufactures, suppliers, and operators about the potential upcoming new requirement of electrical safety test report for Bluetooth devices. This new requirement is related to NBTC announcement of the standard NBTC TS 1035-2562 regarding technical standard of telecommunication equipment and radiocommunication devices using frequency 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.

Previously, the technical standard of frequency 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz was refer to the standard NTC TS 1012-2551. The technical standard NTC TS 1012-2551 was specifically for WLAN/RLAN equipment. However, NBTC misinterpret the new technical standard NBTC TS 1035-2562 which it is more general for telecommunication equipment and radiocommunication devices using frequency 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, not limited to for WLAN/RLAN equipment only. Therefore, the requirement of submitting electrical safety test report for Bluetooth equipment will also be required for SDoC applications.

Impact on NBTC certification in Thailand

As already mentioned before, the implementation of new requirement of electrical safety test report for Bluetooth equipment will be implemented on 1 February 2026. Therefore, SDoC applications submitted from 1 February 2026 and onwards will mandatory to also submit electrical safety test report when process SDoC applications of Bluetooth equipment.

For SDoC applications issue up to 31 January 2026, NBTC will still waive the requirement of submitting electrical safety test report for Bluetooth devices. The electrical safety test report for Bluetooth equipment may under the IEC/EN/LVD standards.

The radiocommunication devices using frequency 2.4 GHz, including Bluetooth radiocommunication, require to process SDoC applications. The compliance of standard NBTC TS 1035-2562 demonstrate that the Bluetooth devices have complied with technical standard in Thailand.

The required test reports to process SDoC applications for Bluetooth devices consist of Radio Frequency test report, Electrical safety test report, and Radiation exposure test report. Besides the test reports, suppliers and operators also need to submit following other documents:

  • Application form specified by NBTC
  • Company registration certificate of the applicants
  • ID card or passport of the authorized director issued by Thai authority
  • Power of attorney letter
  • Technical specifications
  • Test reports
  • Equipment photos

Conclusion

It is important for suppliers and operators to keep updated with all new requirement of NBTC certification in Thailand, including this update for SDoC of Bluetooth equipment. The SDoC registration process is not merely an administrative obligation but also a form of responsibility for maintaining device quality and Thailand’s national radio spectrum.
