South Korea RRA Abolishes SAR Standards KS C 3370-1, KS C 3370-2 with KS C 3350 Under Notification No. 2026-6
The National Radio Research Agency (RRA) of South Korea has published a Notification No. 2026-6 regarding the abolition of two national standards for Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) measurement procedures. The abolition of the two SAR standards includes standard number KS C 3370-1 and KS C 3370-2. The two abolished SAR standards will be integrated into a new SAR standard under standard number KS C 3350.
This Notification No. 2026-6 is effective from the date of issuance, dated 26 August 2026. Therefore, in this article we will discuss all important notes from the notification document and its impact to the process of Type Approval in South Korea.
Key Notes of Notification No. 2026-6 for SAR Standards Abolition
The Notification No. 2026-6 regarding the abolition of two SAR standards, contains information on the standard numbers and title of the abolished standards, as well as the reasons for their abolition, as follows:
| Category | Standard Number | Standard Name |
| Abolition | KS C 3370-1 | Procedure for measuring the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) of portable wireless equipment used in close proximity to the ear |
| Abolition | KS C 3370-2 | Procedures for measuring the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) of portable wireless equipment used in close proximity to the human body |
The reasons for abolition of standard numbers KS C 3370-1 and KS C 3370-2 are as follows:
- The standard number KS C 3370-1 is abolished due to integration into and replacement by another standard (KS C 3350: Measurement procedures for the assessment of Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) of electromagnetic fields from wireless communication devices used in close proximity to the human body).
- The standard number KS C 3370-2 is abolished due to integration into and replacement by another standard (KS C 3350: Measurement procedures for the assessment of Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) of electromagnetic fields from wireless communication devices used in close proximity to the human body)
Before Notification No. 2026-6 is issued, an amendment to the national standard KS C 3350 has also been established under the Administrative Notification No. 2025-44. One of the key points of Notification No. 2025-44 described the application of national standard KS C 3350 for the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) measurement requirements. The existing SAR standards at the time, KS C 3370-1 and KS C 3370-2, will be integrated into the SAR standard KS C 3350.
Impact on South Korea Type Approval
The integration of previous standards KS C 3370-1 and KS C 3370-2 into KS C 3350 may eliminate redundancy and improve testing parameters clarity. However, it may also affect the essential testing measurement procedure for Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) in South Korea.
Therefore, these changes may need to be classified as a major regulatory shift for manufacturers and KC certificate holders. You may download a copy of the Notification No. 2026-6 in the file below.
Conclusion
The implementation of Notification No. 2026-6 may cause confusion among manufacturers and KC certificate holders in South Korea. Therefore, manufacturers and suppliers need to understand the SAR testing measurement procedure under a new SAR standard, number KS C 3350.
